Anti-polishing ring. The inner diameter is slightly smaller than the working inner diameter of the cylinder liner.
When the piston reaches top dead center, the piston top land passes through the inner bore of the APR ring; the inner edge of the ring scrapes away the hard carbon deposits and sludge accumulated on the piston top land.
